Picture schedules are the key to structuring a classroom. Many educators and parents feel that picture schedules may only work for students on the autism spectrum, they are excellent tools for non-communicative students and lower cognitive functioning students.
Personally, I create mine using Board maker software or actual photographs of the item or event. I attach the pictures to the schedule holder using Velcro dots so the student can move the picture when necessary. Actual pictures may be imported into Board Maker which helps in creating it in the same format.
You may ask why picture schedules? Picture schedules will enable the student to visually comprehend the progression of their day. I have found that using picture schedules helps lessen the amount of transition time meltdowns and it allows the students to manipulate how their day progresses.
